Although the event last six days the preparation for those monumental days will take much longer. My training starts as of now.
I have drawn up a training schedule split into 2-month blocks so that I can concentrate my efforts into smaller targets rather than one long plan. I enjoy a variety of sports so have tried to split the activities up rather than going out for long runs 5 or 6 times a week. I hope by splitting the schedules into 2-month blocks I can achieve the gradual increase needed without over doing it and causing injury.
In addition to the training schedules I am planning to enter various events on weekends such as 10k’s, ½ marathons, marathons, multi terrain walking so the weekly plan will be tailored to suit these events if required. Within every 2-month block I plan to arrange an activity weekend. This could either be one the events above or a specially arranged activity. I also hope to plan 3 training camp weeks before the MDS as follows:
Training camp 1 – (Endurance / fitness) - July 2010
Training camp 2 – (Sahara environment training) – December 2010
Training camp 3 – (Survival / multi terrain) – February 2011
